Youth Emmaus is a 14
session course for 11-16 year olds introducing
the basics of the Christian Faith.
|
The course, which is hands-on and interactive, explores
what Christians believe about God, Jesus and the Holy
Spirit, what it means to be a Christian and what impact
faith can
have on the way we live our lives.
All the material has
been produced by experienced youth leaders and road-tested
with youth groups around the
country.
Each session contains full leader’s notes
and photocopiable hand-outs and the pack comes complete
with a free CD Rom
containing downloadable text and graphics and a Powerpoint
presentation.

‘
It made us laugh and think and helped us to understand
God more’. Tiff John
‘Youth Emmaus is fab. Easy-to-use and very imaginiative…’ Revd
Philip North

I was thrilled to be invited to be part
of the Youth Emmaus writing team – along with Stephen
Cottrell, Tim Sledge and Tony Washington. Our brief was
to write a
course that would be fun, relevant and easy-to use
and that would introduce 11-16 year olds to the Christian
Faith. We wrote the course across the space of about
a year – trying out ideas with groups of teenagers
in our own churches as we went along. The four of us
had great fun discussing the course sessions – thrashing
out what each of us believed and swapping ideas for
games, activities and messy stuff like bread making
and hand-painting.
The Emmaus Nurture course for adults – on which
our course is based – takes as it’s model
a story in the Bible where Jesus walks alongside two
people on a journey to a village called Emmaus. Only
at the end of the story do the two people realise that
it was Jesus who walked beside them. Youth Emmaus is
designed to help youth leaders ‘walk alongside’ teenagers
as they discover faith and to help us get to know the
Jesus who walks alongside all of us – even when
we don’t recognise him.
