Everything’s changing,
shifting – like the sand under the waves,
moving, making new patterns…

Tony
is slowly coming to terms with the death of his mother,
but he still feels alone and very angry. He can’t
understand how his dad can get his life back together so
quickly. Things with Clare aren’t what they were,
and Gary and Tony are growing apart.
There doesn’t
seem to be much to look forward to – until
the festival starts, and Tony meets Jodie.

‘
An uplifting and sensitive sequel to Sue Mayfield’s
powerful novel On Eagles’ Wings.’ Scholastic
Publishing Ltd

Coping with change and
with the after shocks of a traumatic event were the themes
I wanted to explore in this sequel
to On Eagles’ Wings. At the end of the first
book I left Tony in a pretty raw state - grieving for
his
mum, uncertain how he and his dad would get along together
on their own, and pretty angry at the way things had
turned out. I felt I needed to go back and see how
he was getting on…
How sustainable was Tony’s
intense first love with Clare? How was Tony’s
mate Gary – always inclined
to shy away from anything too ‘heavy’ – coping
with having a bereaved friend? What choices was Tony’s
dad making as a single parent? And where did Tony stand
faith-wise – had his experiences since the first
book made him more or less likely to believe in a God
of love?
