J.C. United are a dream team.
Even their mascot, Shoot the dog, can do headers
and kicks. But will they be able to beat the ferocious
Ricky’s Rockets?
|
In the five-aside tournament Jamie Cocker’s team – J.C.United – are
playing in blue and white. Things are looking good in
the first half and they’re beating Ricky’s
Rockets three nil. But then things fall apart - Maxine
Cole lets in a goal, William Storer’s boot flies
off and Darren Paul goes off injured. The worst thing
is, Jamie’s team hasn’t got a substitute…or
has it?

Review from ‘Junior Bookshelf’:
A high spirited football story with a wonderfully funny
ending to appeal to the beginner reader. studentbookworld.com

Shoot! was a lot of fun to write. It began life as a
rhyming story about a junior football team who encounter
a gang of bullies. Somewhere along the line the bullies
got dropped and Shoot the amazing footballing dog was
introduced. I kept some of the rhyming – especially
the players names – Jamie Cocker mad about soccer,
Maxine Cole great in goal and Simon Shredders wicked
at headers!
Shoot was inspired by my own dog Moss who
is great at football too.I love Ken Cox’s pictures
of Shoot – especially
the ‘skills’ page (page 12 &13) where ‘Shoot
dribbles, Shoot scores, with his nose…and with
his paws!’
